Rubber ChickenA prospective juror in a Dallas District Court was surprised by the definition of voluntary manslaughter given to the panel: “An intentional killing that occurs while the defendant is under the immediate influence of sudden passion arising from an adequate cause, such as when a spouse’s mate is found in a ‘compromising position.'”

“See, I have a problem with that passion business,” responded the jury candidate. “During my first marriage, I discovered that my husband was having an affair with my neighbor. All I did was divorce him. I had no idea that I could have shot him.”

She wasn’t selected for the jury.

Sad news.

R.I.P. Chris Kyle

Chris Kyle, former Navy SEAL and author of the New York Times bestseller American Sniper, was one of two victims killed in a shooting at a Texas gun range Saturday.

According to a local news station, police have arrested a suspect in the slayings. The suspect reportedly shot Kyle at point-blank range while he attempted to aid a fellow veteran.

Kyle reportedly achieved 160 kills as a sniper in the Navy SEALs. His author profile at Amazon.com summarizes the extensive decorations he received while serving:

SEAL Team 3 Chief Chris Kyle served four combat tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom and elsewhere. For his bravery in battle, he was awarded two Silver Stars, five Bronze Stars with Valor, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and one Navy and Marine Corps Commendation. Additionally, he received the Grateful Nation Award, given by the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs. Following his combat deployments, he became chief instructor for training Naval Special Warfare Sniper and Counter-Sniper teams, and he authored the Naval Special Warfare Sniper Doctrine, the first Navy SEAL sniper manual.

The shooting occurred in Erath County, Texas, some 50 miles from Fort Worth.

UPDATE: A close friend tells Breitbart News that Chris Kyle was at a veterans’ charity event, helping a fellow military member learn sniper shooting technique, and that he was shot by a Marine suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome. The suspect, Eddie Ray Routh, has been arrested in Lancaster, Texas in connection with the shooting.

Where Each US Region Gets Its Oil Imports

Ever wondered exactly which countries the oil in your region comes from? Well here is the answer.

Where Oil Comes From

Last year, the U.S. imported 40 percent of its crude oil. But not as much as you might think comes from the Middle East. Most of it comes from Canada, and a good amount from Africa.

But where your fuel comes from has a lot to do with what part of the country you’re in. To the person standing at the pump, gassing up the ol’ family truckster, it all looks and smells the same when it comes out of the pump nozzle. But it didn’t all start out the same.

Some grades of crude are more difficult to process than others. For example, crude that comes from Canada’s tar sands takes a different process to refine than the type of shale oil found in North Dakota and Texas.

All in all, the U.S. imports about 2.3 million barrels per day from Canada, 2.1 million barrels per day from the Middle East, and 900,000 million barrels per day from Africa. Where that oil ends up depends upon where it makes the most sense to ship. That’s why African oil goes to the East and Gulf coasts, Mexican crude to the Texas and nearby states, and Canadian oil to the Midwest and anywhere else a pipeline can take it.

If it’s approved by the U.S. government, the proposed Keystone XL pipeline extension could mean pumping 1.5 million gallons per day of Canadian tar sand crude over 1,700 miles to Texas refineries. But the political battle will have to play out completely before the fate of the project is settled.

Texas Beer Joint Sues Local Church

TEXAS BEER JOINT SUES LOCAL CHURCH OVER LIGHTNING STRIKE!

(This should keep you chuckling for awhile)

A bar called Drummond’s (in Mt Vernon, Texas ) began construction on an expansion of their building, hoping to “grow” their business.

In response, the local Southern Baptist Church started a campaign to block the bar from expanding – petitions, prayers, etc.

About a week before the bar’s grand re-opening, a bolt of lightning struck the bar and burned it to the ground!

Afterward, the church folks were rather smug – bragging about “the power of prayer”.

The angry bar owner eventually sued the church on grounds that the church… “Was ultimately responsible for the demise of his building, through direct actions or indirect means.”

Of course, the church vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection to the building’s demise.

The judge read carefully through the plaintiff’s complaint and the defendant’s reply.

He then opened the hearing by saying:

“I don’t know how I’m going to decide this, but it appears from the paperwork that what we have here is a bar owner who now believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that does not.”

Fighter jet technology for your rifle? Sign me up!

A new Texas-based company is developing a shooting system that could turn even the least skilled marksmen into a sniper-quality shooter.

TrackingPoint calls its system the “world’s first precision guided firearm.”

President Jason Schauble explained in a YouTube demonstration of the technology that what the company did is “put jet fighter lock-and-launch technology into a firing system.”

The system uses a conventional gun and ammunition, but combines them with a Intelligent Digital Tracking Scope and a guided trigger. The technology doesn’t let you fire until the shot is spot on.

“You don’t have to be an experienced shooter,” Schauble said in the video. “You can come and pick this up and within minutes be able to master the tag-track-exact technology that allows you to get on target.”
