The Native Bees of America

Native bees are an unappreciated treasure, with 4,000 species from tiny Perdita to large carpenter bees, they can be found anywhere in North America where flowers bloom.

Most people don’t realize that there were no honey bees in America until the white settlers brought hives from Europe. These resourceful insects promptly managed to escape domestication, forming swarms and setting up housekeeping in hollow trees, other cavities or even exposed to the elements just as they had been doing in their native lands.

Native pollinators, in particular bees, had been doing all the pollination in this continent before the arrival of that import from the Old World. They continue to do a great deal of it, especially when it comes to native plants.

The Most Unique Ways To Die From An Animal In Your State

The Most Unique Ways To Die From An Animal In Your State

Going Above and Beyond:

Quite a few states fall outside the national average in certain animal-related deaths. While Texas is scorpion country and a place where we might expect to see high mortality rates, venomous arthropods are also top killers in North Carolina.

Surprisingly, your chance of being crushed or bitten by reptiles is highest in Missouri and Illinois. And you should worry as much about venomous snakes and lizards in Georgia as you should in California. Dog bites are more common in the Northeast but are also prevalent in Alabama and Arizona.

Notably absent from the map are fish, including sharks – arguably one of the most feared creatures in the sea – notoriously clearing beaches after a sighting of one offshore or a screening of “Jaws” too close to bikini season. In reality, less than one person per year is killed by a shark in the United States.

An Attack On The First Two Amendments

Freedom of Speech, a free Internet and the right to bear arms are crucial to a free and Independent America. If you want hate speech laws, move to Europe. If you want a Communist Internet, move to China. If you want to learn what happens when a country disarms its citizens, study the history of the 20th century alone where 262 MILLION people died at the hands of their own governments.

The first two Amendments of the Constitution are under attack at the same time. It’s not a coincidence.
