It’s hard to say what drove these Ukrainian undertakers to build a giant coffin, fill it with a bunch of average-sized coffins and wreaths, and then start serving dinner inside of it. Whatever the motivation, whether it was driven by marketing, or simply their love of the craft, the Eternity Restaurant is a sight to behold.
Crowned unchallenged as the largest coffin in the world by Guinness World Records, the casket is 20 meters long, 6 meters wide, and 6 meters high. Made out of pine (what else?) and furnished inside with the finest funeral décor, guests can enjoy dour dinners surrounded in the trappings of the recently deceased.
Single candles light the intimate tables, where patrons can order morbid dishes with ominous, vague names such as “Let’s meet in Paradise”, or more the more distinctly death oriented “Forty Day Salad”, which eludes to local mourning ritual of repeating memorial services 40 days after a soul’s sad departure.
Run by a local funeral parlor, the restaurant is located in the town of Truskavets, in the west of the country near the Polish border. It was the concept of the parlor’s director, Stepan Pyrianyk, who not only loves his work, but loves a good meal.

Woman Has Eaten Nothing but Pizza for the Last 31 Years
It isn’t exactly food fit for a queen, but it’s good enough for 33-year-old Claire Simmons. Claire loves cheese and tomato pizza so much that she’s been eating nothing else for 31 years. Which means she’s been eating the stuff since she was about 2 years old. That does sound too young to be eating pizza in the first place. But it’s not that she doesn’t want to eat anything else, it’s just that she can’t. She shudders at the mere mention of other food and will gag if she puts anything else other than plain pizza in her mouth.
What Claire suffers from is actually known as Selective Eating Disorder. Experts say she’s on the road to killing herself with her diet. But she disagrees. According to Claire, she keeps herself healthy by drinking plenty of water and getting lots of exercise. This doesn’t convince her GP however, who says that if she keeps this up, the lack of vitamins and minerals will lead to huge problems in the future, such as a stroke or heart attack. Claire can’t help it though, given that she’s terrified of eating fruits and vegetables. “I get so angry when people think I’m being faddy – this is a real medical condition,” she says. She does seem to have made it through 31 years on just pizza, and is still going strong. I wonder how she isn’t sick of the stuff, though.
The Worlds Largest Cork Screw
This incredible wine uncorking contraption was created by mechanical sculptor Rob Higgs. Inspired by Heath Robinson‘s mechanical drawings, Higgs constructed The Corkscrew partly out of found parts. Other components he based on existing parts which he modified and recast in bronze. Check it out in action in the video above and you’ll see that not only does this hand-cranked beast uncork the wine bottle, but it also pours you a glass!
A Bathtub Made of Books
Back in 2008, the blog Who Cares About That? wrote about Vanessa Mancini’s project to build a functional sculpture: a bathtub made from deconstructed books fitted together and then sealed so that one could “bathe in knowledge.” It’s a beautiful artifact, though I can’t find any evidence that it was ever finished.
This bath is made entirely out of books which Vanessa cut and fitted together over a metal frame to form a bath of books, which is suspended by four antique bath tub, lion-shaped feet. She intends to later cover it in layers of resin and has already applied proper taps and drain, so that it will be a utilizable, functional bath at all effects.
The idea is of immersing oneself in knowledge, books, truths, and ‘cleaning’ or ‘purifying’ one’s mind with from external, every day life bombarding from media, by reading ad reflecting on books,- ‘pure sources’, which is of course, metaphorical, implying we can become polluted by ideas of truths and knowledge, which we can only ‘clean’ by reading our way through to our own ideas and reflections.
