Picture Of The Day: Six Moai Snowmen

Six Moai Snowmen

Six moai snowmen stand in a row, watching the sun rise and set like clockwork knowing that their days on this earth are numbered.

Snow is not the ideal medium for constructing moai statues, and considering they originated on Polynesian islands in the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean this comes as no surprise. What is surprising, however, is the fact that these moai men have changed their minds about surfing, and now think of snowboarding as their favorit action sport.

Stoic and chisel jawed, with an icy stare that would freeze the hearts of kinder, gentler snowmen, these moai warn visitors- don’t mess with this house or you’ll anger the sacred spirits that stand guard.

Digital Vs. Analog Film

A side by side comparison, created for PBS Digital Studios, of a Canon 5d (Full Sensor) digital camera and a Canon 7E (35mm) film camera.

Ever since digital technology took over for those sprocket holed strips of film photographers once knew and loved people have been asking themselves the same question- which one looks better?

At first film still stood a chance, since digital imaging technology couldn’t produce images with the clarity of most films, but now that we’re in the double digit megapixel range, and images both moving and still are striving to become more hi def, digital imaging seems to be taking the lead.

Here’s a side by side comparative video by Joey Shanks that attempts to put the whole debate to bed by displaying images from both mediums in a way which should result in a grand prize winner. Who wins the grand prize? Watch the video and find out!

An Otter Called Iivari

A Finnish man makes friends with an Otter called Iivari.

Enjoy!

A man in Finland made friends with a wild otter, using the one thing the otter really wants -food! The otter will even come into the house long enough to grab a fish, although he prefers to eat it outside, alone. The guy’s lovely deep voice summons the otter from the water even when it’s covered with ice. By the end of the video, Iiveri is even talking back to him!

Run Run Rudolph: The World of Reindeer Racing

Enjoy!

Reindeer racing, in which competitors on skis are pulled by reindeer galloping down the snow-covered trail, is a popular sport in Norway, Finland, and Russia. The indigenous Sami people are reindeer herders, and know which are the fastest for the sport. Reindeer that run the fastest are highly prized for breeding purposes, and sometimes reindeer are the actual prize for winning a race!

Variations on the sport include reindeer pulling sleds, and reindeer teams of two or more. In Anchorage, Alaska, people actually race against reindeer, which ends up looking like the running of the bulls in Pamplona.

Bunny Takes A Shower

Have you ever seen a Rabbit relax like this?

What’s more relaxing than a nice warm bath after a long, stressful day? Pretty much nothing, right?

Well, believe it or not, bunnies feel the same way…or at least, this bunny does -especially when they are paired with soft, gentle massages. Little Cloody here even fell asleep during this relaxing massage session.

While rabbits don’t usually need help bathing because, like cats, they clean themselves. Cloody certainly loves his occassional bath time and you can tell just by looking at this bundle of relaxation.
