Barack Obama Pledges to Establish a Palestinian State as Soon as Possible

And to think over 70% of Jews voted for Obama. Well, elections have consequences, don’t they?

Obama pledges state to Palestinian leader

President-elect Barack Obama today phoned Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and pledged to work to establish a Palestinian state as soon as possible, a senior PA negotiator told WND.

“Obama expressed his full support for a Palestinian state. He told the president (Abbas) he will continue to promote the peace process, which will end with a two-state solution,” said the PA’s second most senior negotiator, Saeb Erekat.

“Obama said he will keep working in collaboration with the Israeli government and PA to reach a final solution. He said he’ll do everything in his power to help create a Palestinian state as soon as we can,” Erekat told WND.

It was the first phone call between Abbas and Obama, Erekat added.

Obama’s transition spokesman Nick Shapiro did not immediately return a WND e-mail and phone request seeking comment.

The call comes two weeks after a reported flair-up on Election Day in which a senior Palestinian official told WND the Obama campaign urged Palestinian officials to deny an Arab media report that the then-Democratic nominee confided to Palestinian leadership that he supports their right to a capital in eastern Jerusalem.

The episode began after a Lebanese newspaper story Nov. 3 quoted sources in Ramallah who claimed that in a meeting in July with Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, the two heard from Obama “the best things they ever heard from an American presidential candidate.”

The report in the Al-Akhbar daily, known to have close contacts to Palestinian leaders in Lebanon, claimed Obama told Abbas and Fayyad he “supports the rights of the Palestinians to east Jerusalem, as well as their right to a stable, sovereign state,” but he petitioned them to keep the remarks confidential.

Asked for comment by WND, chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat at the time would neither confirm nor deny knowledge of Obama’s purported remarks. Abbas political adviser Namer Hamad subsequently issued a denial to reporters.

But a senior official confirmed to WND that Obama said in a July trip to the region he favored a “negotiated settlement” that may grant the PA control over sections of Jerusalem.

The official, a longtime reliable source, claimed to WND that Obama advisers on Election Day engaged in a series of intense conversations asking that Abbas’ office issue a denial.

The Lebanese report echoed a similar exclusive WND article immediately following Obama’s meeting with Abbas and Fayyad in which a senior Palestinian source said Obama informed the Palestinians he supports a “negotiated settlement” that may grant the PA control over sections of Jerusalem.

“He assured us there was a misunderstanding when he said in [June] he supports the Israelis’ rights to hold on to Jerusalem,” the PA official, who took part in the meeting with Obama, told WND at the time. “He told us he corrected this right away and that he supports a negotiated settlement that will give the Palestinians territory.”

The official was referring to a speech Obama delivered in June to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee in which he stated if he is elected president, “Jerusalem would remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided.”

Immediately following the speech, Obama reversed himself during a CNN appearance, explaining he meant Jerusalem shouldn’t be physically divided with a partition.

“Well, obviously, it’s going to be up to the parties to negotiate a range of these issues. And Jerusalem will be part of those negotiations,” he said in response to a question about whether Palestinians have a legitimate claim to the city.

Obama said that “as a practical matter, it would be very difficult to execute” a division of the city.

“And I think that it is smart for us to, to work through a system in which everybody has access to the extraordinary religious sites in Old Jerusalem but that Israel has a legitimate claim on that city.”

Did Iran Test a Nuke?

The Israel Insider is reporting that Iran may have tested a series of nuclear weapons underground.

If there is any truth to this story, then we may need to gird our loins… especially if Obama gets elected.

“Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. … Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.” ~ Joe “The Perpetual Gaffe Machine” Biden

Iranian source: “Quake” Saturday was nuclear bomb test

Israel Insider exclusively reports that a seismic event this weekend in southern Iran may in fact have been a massive underground nuclear bomb test. According to the USGS, the tremor measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale took place Saturday night, October 25 just before midnight Iran time, with its epicenter at 26.70°N, 55.02°E, just north of the strategic straits of Hormuz, opposite Abu Dhabi.
Zoomable map source: Google Maps.

The claim that the tremor was in fact a nuclear test came from an Iranian nuclear scientist who claims to be working in uranium enrichment for the project. A report published by Israel Insider on Friday, October 24 included a captionless map that portrayed the area of the seismic event that occurred the following night, based on location information previously provided by the Iranian source.

Israel Insider’s source reports that the test is in fact the second in a series. A 4.8 Richter scale event occurred on October 21 with an epicenter (26.70N, 54.96E) within 5 km (3 miles) of the October 25 tremor.

Israeli and foreign sources have long speculated that Iran has been in possession of ready nuclear bombs but would only begin testing them when a full production line for nuclear weapons is in place.

The source indicated that Iran is being assisted by China and North Korea. Israel Insider’s Iranian source reports that two “nuclear rockets” have been completed and are intended for use against the Jewish State in the coming months.

The site of the test and the development facility are believed to be in close proximity. The location appears to have been carefully selected. The area is exposed to significant seismic activity, which could serve to mask nuclear tests, although the recent spike in activity in that specific area significantly deviates from historical trends. A tremor measuring 6.2 struck the area on September 10, 2008 (its epicenter was 80km or 50 miles due west), the largest seismic event in the area in more than 33 years.

The location on the Persian Gulf near the straits of Hormuz would also facilitate delivery and transport of material and personnel. the strategic importance of the immediate area may also be intended to deter potential strikes against the facilities, which could close down the flow of a substantial percentage of the world’s oil.

Enraged, Humorless Arabs Threaten to Boycott Nissan

Does a day ever go by that angry Muslims somewhere aren’t demanding apologies?

A new Nissan commercial airing in Israel has offended the oil-rich Arabs. The commercial shows a group of Arab sheikhs enraged at the sight of a Nissan car known for its fuel efficiency. One man pounds his fists on the car and is then held back by his companions as he shouts at it, “You’ve ruined my house!” (Colloquial Arabic for “You’ve put me out of business!”).

At the end of the commercial, the voice-over says, “It’s clear the oil companies won’t like you.”

The Nissan advertisement is brilliant and perfect for the Western market and all those fed up with the spectacle of trillions of dollars flowing to some of the most undeserving, hostile and greedy people in the world.

Saudi slams ‘racist’ Israeli Nissan ad

Gulf states may boycott the Nissan Motor Company as a result of an Israeli TV commercial that depicts Saudis angered by a fuel-efficient car, a Saudi official has said.

The new campaign by Renault-Nissan caused an uproar in the Gulf when it showed a group of Saudi oil barons screaming and attacking the Renault-Nissan vehicle.

“It’s my opinion that Nissan made a huge error by igniting these [racist] instincts,” official Hani al-Wafa told MBC TV, a Saudi-run station headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. “We need to apply punishments… against these things. In order for Nissan to keep its interests in the region, it must apologize.”

Israeli advertising and marketing agency Inbar Merhav Shaked, which developed the Renault-Nissan campaign, declined to comment.

In January, Israel partnered with Project Better Place, a company that aims to reduce petroleum dependency through the use of electric cars.

Through the government initiative, Israel hopes to mass-market electric vehicles by 2011. Denmark is also investing in electric cars at a national level.

Project Better Place partnered with Renault-Nissan to provide the electric vehicles featured in the new commercial.

“It’s a humorous campaign that was loved by both the Jewish and Arab worlds,” Daniella Ribenbach, the spokeswoman for Nissan in Israel, told The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday. She declined to make any further comments on the matter.

Hadar Goldman, co-owner of the Zarmon Goldman advertising agency in Tel Aviv, said he hoped Saudis would tolerate humorous and exaggerated commercials.

“If we have a sense of humor, I expect them to have one as well,” he said.

Nissan’s electric vehicle, introduced on Wednesday, is set to go on the market in Japan and the United States in 2010, and globally by 2012.

The car was designed to provide more power than hybrid models, and emits zero emissions.

During test runs, the car was quiet and produced no engine noise – a trademark of electric vehicles. Details such as cruising range have yet to be determined, Nissan officials said.

Having fallen behind rivals Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. in hybrids, Nissan has made the electric vehicle the pillar of its green strategy.

The Saudis are shown leaving a hotel and encountering the new, fuel-efficient vehicle. One man pounds his fists on the car and is then held back by his companions as he shouts at it, “Hawks should peck at you day and night.”

At the end of the commercial, the voice-over says, “It’s clear the oil companies won’t like you.”

Tick Tock… Tick Tock: Israeli Warplanes Practice in Iraq

Why is it that Israel seems to be the only country that realizes time is running out?

I guess they feel rushed to get this done while Bush is still in office. If Obama is elected, they know he will throw them under the bus.

Israeli warplanes practice in Iraq

Israel Air Force (IAF) war planes are practicing in Iraqi airspace and land on US airbases in the country as a preparation for a potential strike on Iran, sources in the Iraqi Defense Ministry told a local news network on Friday.

The report, which was also carried by Iranian news outlets, claimed that recently massive IAF overnight presence was detected in several American held airbases.

Iraq denied on Friday reports claiming the Israeli Air Force has been practicing for a possible attack against Iran in its airspace.

According to the sources, former military officers in the Anbar province said IAF jets arrive during the night from Jordanian airspace, enter Iraq’s airspace and land on a runway near the city of Hadita. The sources estimated the jets were practicing for a raid on Iran’s nuclear sites.

The sources also said the American bases in Iraq might serve as a platform for the IAF from which to attack Iran. If Israeli warplanes will take off from Iraq, they can reach Bushehr in five minutes – a “record time,” the sources said.

After reports of a massive IAF exercise over the Mediterranean surfaced several weeks ago, an Israeli official told the times that the drill was “the dress rehearsal” for an attack on Iran’s nuclear sites.

On Thursday, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Israel was the “strongest country in the region.” Sending a thinly veiled warning to Iran, Barak said Israel “has already proved it did not shy away in the past from acting when it fears its vital interests are at stake.”

Ahmadinejad’s Newest Apocalyptic Vision

I guess our only hope is for Barack Obama to hurry over to Iran to sit down and talk with this nut job. I’m sure he’ll be able to say something to him that will cause Ahmadinejad to have an epiphany and suddenly come to love all Jews. Heck, with his messianic ways, Obama might even be able to get Ahmadinejad to convert to Judaism.

Seriously, at what point do threats from Ahmadinejad warrant a response?

There are only so many options:

1. We do nothing and hope Iran doesn’t develop a nuclear weapon that wipes Israel off the map.

2. We try diplomacy, which is nothing more than negotiation with a lunatic, or

3. We send a message, like Ronald Reagan did with Gaddafi in Libya, by sending a couple of punk-seeking missiles into the Presidential palace.

Ahmadinejad says Israel will soon disappear

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad predicted on Monday that Muslims would uproot “satanic powers” and repeated his controversial belief that Israel will soon disappear, the Mehr news agency reported.

“I must announce that the Zionist regime (Israel), with a 60-year record of genocide, plunder, invasion and betrayal is about to die and will soon be erased from the geographical scene,” he said.

“Today, the time for the fall of the satanic power of the United States has come and the countdown to the annihilation of the emperor of power and wealth has started.”

Since taking the presidency in August 2005, Ahmadinejad has repeatedly provoked international outrage by predicting Israel is doomed to disappear.

“I tell you that with the unity and awareness of all the Islamic countries all the satanic powers will soon be destroyed,” he said to a group of foreign visitors ahead of the 19th anniversary of the death of revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Ahmadinejad also again expressed his apocalyptic vision that tyranny in the world be abolished by the return to earth of the Mahdi, the 12th imam of Shiite Islam, alongside great religious figures including Jesus Christ.

“With the appearance of the promised saviour… and his companions such as Jesus Christ, tyranny will be soon be eradicated in the world.”

Ahmadinejad has always been a devotee of the Mahdi, who Shiites believe disappeared more than a thousand years ago and who will return one day to usher in a new era of peace and harmony.

His emphasis on the Mahdi has been a cause of controversy inside Iran with critics saying he would be better solving bread-and-butter domestic problems rather than talking about Iran’s divine responsibility.
