Rototiller Racing

If it has a motor and wheels, somebody will race it.

Do you have a rototiller? How fast does it go? How fast can you make it go?

If you can modify your tiller to go faster than any other and run behind it, holding onto the handlebars, for 200 feet, then you might have what it takes to be a rototiller racer.

The capital of this sport is Emerson, Arkansas. There, at annual PurpleHull Pea Festival, the champions assemble to find out who is the fastest rototiller racer.

As long as the engine doesn’t produce more than 50 horsepower, you can modify your tiller however you wish. Racers must run, not ride, their tillers for the entire race. They have to attach a kill switch to their wrists so that if they lose control of their tillers, they shut off automatically.

Shane Waller of Junction City, Arkansas holds the current record. He tilled the 200-foot field in just 5.59 seconds. That’s a speed of about 24 miles per hour.

I’m Farming and I Grow It

Enjoy!

Three brothers from Saline County took a break from harvest to make a music video. They wrote their own words to the LMFAO song ‘I’m sexy and I know it’. Their version is ‘I’m farming and I grow it’. For three minutes, they sing and dance in the fields and among cattle.

Greg, Nathan and Kendal Peterson created the video and the group known as “Peterson Farm Bros”. The goal is to promote agriculture and the importance of it.

The brothers say they owe all of their sucess to blue collar attitude they picked up in the world of agriculture.

“We didn’t think it would go all over the place, that was a surprise”, says group member Nathan Peterson.

“We haven’t really gone anywhere yet, kind of hesitant to go out in public right now”, adds the head of the group Greg Peterson.

So are the “Peterson Farm Bros” one-hit wonders or is this just one of many hits still to come from the heartland?

“We will probably try and do more, I’m not sure if we can be as good as the first one”, says youngest brother Kendal Peterson.

Greg Peterson said he came up with the lyrics while having a milk shake with close friends; their reaction led him to believe he was on to something.

In three short days the three brothers racked up over a quarter of a million YouTube video hits for their production.

Lose your property for growing food?

Obama and his cronies or his puppetmasters are trying to take total control – nationalize everything, disarm the populace, control food, etc. We are seeing the formation of a total police state.

Some small farms and organic food growers could be placed under direct supervision of the federal government under new legislation making its way through Congress.

Food Safety Modernization Act

House Resolution 875, or the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009, was introduced by Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., in February. DeLauro’s husband, Stanley Greenburg, works for Monsanto – the world’s leading producer of herbicides and genetically engineered seed.

DeLauro’s act has 39 co-sponsors and was referred to the House Agriculture Committee on Feb. 4. It calls for the creation of a Food Safety Administration to allow the government to regulate food production at all levels – and even mandates property seizure, fines of up to $1 million per offense and criminal prosecution for producers, manufacturers and distributors who fail to comply with regulations.

Michael Olson, host of the Food Chain radio show and author of “Metro Farm,” told WND the government should focus on regulating food production in countries such as China and Mexico rather than burdening small and organic farmers in the U.S. with overreaching regulations.

“We need somebody to watch over us when we’re eating food that comes from thousands and thousands of miles away. We need some help there,” he said. “But when food comes from our neighbors or from farmers who we know, we don’t need all of those rules. If your neighbor sells you something that is bad and you get sick, you are going to get your hands on that farmer, and that will be the end of it. It regulates itself.”

The legislation would establish the Food Safety Administration within the Department of Health and Human Services “to protect the public health by preventing food-borne illness, ensuring the safety of food, improving research on contaminants leading to food-borne illness, and improving security of food from intentional contamination, and for other purposes.”
