Artist Creates Paintings Using Smoke

Michael Fennel is an artist who uses smoke to create art. For the past 16 years he has developed a special technique of manipulating smoke on wooden panels to create amazing paintings.

Michael Fennell is an exceptional artist who uses smoke to create stunning portrait paintings on panels.

While much of his process remains unknown to the outside world, Fennell states “Smoke is a unique medium that is not drawn, painted, printed, rubbed, flicked, blown or sprayed on – so what could we say – air borne? It can create the most beautiful blacks that are ‘luminous’ and have depth to the extent that charcoal is flat and pale next to it. It can also create melting, nebulous edges and a great range of tones to rival those of photography. ”

He has numerous awe-inspiring works including a portrait of Amelia Earhart where the smoke streams and clouds almost radiate off of the piece.

Another artwork is titled “Queen of the Bees”, depicting a nude woman surrounded by insects. Her striking face stares straight ahead covered by a beekeeper hat and veil. The smoke rings make up the background and dark veil.

In the end, the paintings possess a vintage, nostalgic quality reminiscent of artwork from centuries ago.

Paul Smith: One Man At His Finest With A Typewriter

Paul Smith Mona Lisa
Mona Lisa

He lived at Rose Haven Nursing Home ( Roseburg , OR ) for years. Paul Smith, the man with extraordinary talent was born on September 21, 1921, with severe cerebral palsy. Not only had Paul beaten the odds of a life with spastic cerebral palsy, a disability that impeded his speech and mobility but also taught himself to become a master artist as well as a terrific chess player even after being devoid of a formal education as a child.

“When typing, Paul used his left hand to steady his right one. Since he couldn’t press two keys at the same time, he almost always locked the shift key down and made his pictures using the symbols at the top of the number keys. In other words, his pictures were based on these characters ….. @ # $ % ^ & * ( )_ .

Across seven decades, Paul created hundreds of pictures. He often gave the originals away. Sometimes, but not always, he kept or received a copy for his own records. As his mastery of the typewriter grew, he developed techniques to create shadings, colors, and textures that made his work resemble pencil or charcoal drawings.”

This great man passed away on June 25, 2009, but left behind a collection of his amazing artwork that will be an inspiration for many.

You know that saying about “When life closes a door, God opens a window”? Well, I think God helped this man build a whole new house.

Ban Hun Lek is a Thai scrap metal art company that makes amazing pop culture sculptures from discarded auto parts. One of their best works is this Incredible Hulk statue made almost entirely out of rusty old nuts and bolts.

According to the brand’s website, Ban Hun Lek is a family-run business, specializing in hand-made scrap metal art that’s created piece-by-piece from used auto parts that have no value. “Bolts, nuts, screws, spark plugs, and other used auto parts have been re-created by our skillful welders with just a normal electric welding technique,” they wrote. “These art would make great gifts, and are great for collection and decoration.”

The website describes the procedure they use to create these unique sculptures. They start off with an idea or a concept, and then collect all the scrap metal raw material they need for the project. Then, they weld the parts together into their design. Once the sculpture is ready, they clean it and coat it with the appropriate agent to protect it from rusting in the future. The finished sculpture is packed and stocked to be shipped to customers.
