An American With A Remington

Country singers Larry Gatlin and Billy Dean recorded a video of a song they had just written with a special message to ISIS. The song, called “An American with a Remington”, is a shot across the bow of ISIS warning them that they will face fierce resistance from Americans, most likely coming from the barrel of a gun. They intend to actually record and release a studio version in the near future.

Hell Yeah!

When I do master classes in songwriting, I open the class by saying, “It was either Plato, or Socrates, or…(pregnant pause) Johnny Cash, who said, “Take me not to those who write your laws, for they will lie. Take me to those who write your songs, for they will not.”

Then, after another pregnant pause, I confess to my class the neither of the three above-mentioned great philosophers said that. Rather, it was a not so great philosopher, but a fairly decent songwriter who said it…me!!

That brings me to another songwriter, a great songwriter, a Grammy Award-winning songwriter, and a great friend, Billy Dean.

We sat down with our two guitars, our two hearts, our two God given talents, and our singular love for America, and poured our two hearts out in a song, “An American with a Remington.”

Last week, in Joplin, Missouri, Billy, my brothers Steve and Rudy and I, along with our buddies T.G. Sheppard and Leroy Van Dyke did a benefit for the tornado victims of Joplin.

Backstage Billy said, “Hey L.G., I have a song idea I want you to help me write.” When he sang the “hook line” I said, “I’m in. Let’s do it.”

So, last Tuesday night, at the Starlight Theatre in Branson, in the dressing room that Billy and I share, we sat down with our two guitars, our two hearts, our two God given talents, and our singular love for America, and poured our two hearts out in a song, “An American with a Remington.”

The response has been unbelievable — more than 15 million hits and thousands of “hurrahs” from like-minded Americans — in only five days.

Please know that neither Billy nor I are trigger happy cowboys lookin’ for a fight. We just know that the fight is looking for us and for all Americans.

So we decided as 2 of “those who write the songs” it was up to is to write the truth, because so many of those who write our laws will not.

In closing, I don’t know how my friend Billy Dean was brought up, but my dad, the Marine, Curly Gatlin, taught me to shoot with a Remington 12 gauge pump shotgun out in West Texas.

We ate what we shot. That was, and still is the deal for the Gatlins. If you trophy hunt, that’s your business. The Gatlins eat what we kill, or we make damn sure that someone who needs the meat gets the quail, dove, or venison.

So that’s the story about the song “An American with a Remington.” Billy and I hope you like it. If you don’t, that’s none of our business, but I will say this, a lot of good men and women have fought and died or have been wounded to preserve and protect your right to disagree and say so. Is America a great country or what?!

Yours truly,

Larry Gatlin, an American with a Remington

P.S. And Billy Dean, an American with a Remington

P.P.S. One thing J.R. Cash did say to me long ago was, “Pilgrim, if something makes you mad enough boy, you’ll damn sure write a song about it.” Well, J.R., Billy and I are mad as hell about those cowardly, beheading bastards, so we did just that!!

Jimmy Carter: Obama Blew It On ISIS

The former “Worst President” in history says that the current “Worst President” in history waited too long to respond to ISIS.

Jimmy Carter: Obama Blew It On ISIS

From Politico:

Former President Jimmy Carter is criticizing President Barack Obama’s Middle East policy, saying he has shifting policies and waited too long to take action against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

In an interviewed published Tuesday in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the 39th president said the Obama administration, by not acting sooner, allowed ISIL to build up its strength.

“[W]e waited too long. We let the Islamic State build up its money, capability and strength and weapons while it was still in Syria,” he said, using an alternate name for the terrorist group. “Then when [ISIL] moved into Iraq, the Sunni Muslims didn’t object to their being there and about a third of the territory in Iraq was abandoned.”

The administration has launched airstrikes in both Iraq and Syria, the group that has swept across much of northern and central Iraq and has released videos of its members beheading two U.S. journalists and two British aid workers.

Carter said Obama’s air campaign against ISIL in Iraq has “a possibility of success,” provided that some troops are available on the ground. He did not specify whether he meant U.S. or other ground forces.

The former Democratic president and Georgia governor also said the president has shifted his Middle East policy on several occasions.

“It changes from time to time,” he said of the president’s Middle East strategy. “I noticed that two of his secretaries of defense, after they got out of office, were very critical of the lack of positive action on the part of the president,” Carter added, in reference to former defense secretaries Robert Gates and Leon Panetta, who have each released a memoir detailing frustrations with Obama’s foreign policy and management style. In particular, Panetta, who stepped down from the post last year, has criticized Obama in several interviews since the release of his book earlier this week.

FBI Documents Show Anwar al-Awlaki Communicated With The FBI

Was Anwar al-Awlaki a spy? Did Obama assassinate a terrorist that was an asset of the U.S. government?

Newly released documents show that Anwar al-Awlaki was emailing and leaving voice messages with a FBI agent in 2003, a year after FBI Agent Wade Ammerman told customs agents at JFK airport to bypass an outstanding warrant for the cleric’s arrest.

Newly released documents further support the conclusion that the FBI was working with radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki after the 9/11 attacks – in the years before he became the first American targeted for death by a U.S. drone strike.

As part of an ongoing investigation of the cleric that began after the 2009 Fort Hood shooting massacre, Fox News was first to report that in 2002, al-Awlaki was released from custody at JFK International Airport — despite an active warrant for his arrest — with the okay of FBI Agent Wade Ammerman.

Watchdog group Judicial Watch has since obtained more than 900 pages of new documents in the course of its federal lawsuit against the FBI under the Freedom of Information Act. They show the cleric was emailing and leaving voice messages with an FBI agent in 2003, a year after Ammerman told customs agents at JFK airport to bypass an outstanding warrant for the cleric’s arrest.

The documents further support claims that Awlaki, who eventually went overseas and linked up with an Al Qaeda affiliate, worked with the FBI and was likely a U.S. government asset.

“I have little doubt that President Obama assassinated a terrorist that was an asset of the U.S. government,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said.
