Which Battery Lasts The Longest?

Which battery lasts the longest? According to this video regular Duracell batteries are your best choice.

We put the major battery brands to the test to find out which battery will give you the most bang for your buck!

Our testing process was fairly simple but effective. We used the exact same brand of flashlight (Maglite Xenon) all straight from the box. Each pair of batteries tested came from different stores around the Portland, OR area. Set 1 came from Fred Meyer, set 2 from Target and set 3 from Safeway. We did this to make sure we used different shipments and manufacturing dates from the battery companies.

While the procedure was not necessarily scientific, it gives you an indication of what you might expect when purchasing not only batteries, but any product on the market today. It’s always good to do your own research and make purchases based on what you find to work over a long period of time.

The oddest result was with the Energizer 9x Ultimate. It did not perform as expected. After some research we found that this particular battery is mainly intended to be used in high-draw electronics such as digital cameras. However, the marketing on the box says it is GREAT for flashlights. Go figure…

The FingerReader

The FingerReader

The FingerReader is a ring that reads for you. It actually reads aloud when you point at words and can even translate books. The device, developed by MIT Media Lab’s Fluid Interfaces group, is still in its development stage. Eventually the FingerReader might be able to replace braille and could be used as a translation device that allows people to learn a new language.

FingerReader – Wearable Text-Reading Device

The FingerReader is a wearable device that assists in reading printed text. It is a tool both for visually impaired people that require help with accessing printed text, as well as an aid for language translation. Wearers scan a text line with their finger and receive an audio feedback of the words and a haptic feedback of the layout: start and end of line, new line, and other cues. The FingerReader algorithm knows to detect and give feedback when the user veers away from the baseline of the text, and helps them maintain a straight scanning motion within the line.

The WAVE Concept Truck

Wal-Mart unveiled a new concept truck. The WAVE, which stands for Wal-Mart Advanced Vehicle Experience, is made entirely from one-piece 53-foot carbon fibre panels. The cab sits over the engine allowing the driver to sit in the middle—the key to its pointed aerodynamic design.

Liberals will no doubt be confused as how to react to this!

Introducing the WAVE concept truck

The Wal-Mart Advanced Vehicle Experience, or WAVE, concept truck is the latest in our fleet efficiency program. The one-of-a-kind prototype offers a whole package of firsts. The tractor has very advanced aerodynamics and is powered by a prototype advanced turbine-powered, range-extending series hybrid powertrain. The trailer is made almost exclusively with carbon fiber, saving around 4,000 pounds which can then be used to carry more freight.
