The Jockstrap Raiders is a Student Academy Award winning animated short film about a group of misfits during world war I. It takes place in Leeds, England where our heroes are all excluded from the war due to various abnormalities. Threatened by the invading German Kaiser and his army, they must learn to become a team and overcome their deficiencies in order to save Britain, and the world.

 

The Reward

Drop everything you’re doing and hit play on The Reward, a graduation film from Denmark’s The Animation Workshop. This fantasy film about a pair of wannabe adventurers who stumble upon a treasure map plays with a mishmash of animation styles (including a few shades of Adventure Time contrasted against rich light and shadow) and tropes (Look for the narwhals!) in a way that achieves more than dialog could. And it has a moral that we’ve seen a lot over the last couple of years but somehow never gets old: that people can become great friends through adventure and that friendship can make them better adventurers.

Coding: What Most Schools Don’t Teach

We posted awhile ago about a school where programming had become a core subject in schools in Estonia from grades 1 through to 12. Well it seems they are definitely on the right track, and Code.org has created this video to tell you why.

Learning the basics of coding is almost a necessity these days. No matter what field you are in, you are bound to, at some point, come across code. Whether it’s literal programming to calculate, predict or analyze data, or whether its design code for a website, gadget, or app – there’s bound to be somewhere. Usually, there will be someone around you who would be able to help, but in a world of over 7 billion people, it’s becoming important to be useful yourself.
