Goanna Pulling – Neck Tug Of War

Goanna Pulling

Named after an Australian lizard, Goanna Pulling is said to be a real test of strength and agility, although when it comes down to it, it’s really just tug of war using heads instead of hands.

The name comes from the position that players adopt when competing which resembles the stance of the Australian reptile, the Goanna.

Enjoy!

Goanna Pulling is basically tug of war with a bizarre twist – instead of their hands, competitors must use their heads to pull each other over the line and win the game. The rules are pretty simple: two people go (literally) head to head on the goanna pulling pad. They get down on all four, with their bellies touching the board and their heads held high. This position makes participants look a lot like goanna lizards, hence the name of the game, in case you were wondering. The two opponents each place their palms behind a white line traced on the board, and a referee puts a large leather belt around their heads. As soon as he give the signal, the two contestants must use their upper body strength – their neck muscles especially – to pull the other guy past the line and win the game.

Matches can be over in a matter of seconds, or last several minutes. Apparently, proper technique is very important, and while a strong neck is essential, it’s not always the biggest and strongest contestant who wins, which makes it even more exciting to watch

The World’s Most Extreme Toilet

Extreme Toilet

Yes… how bad do you have to go?

The world’s most extreme toilet is located in Siberia, 2,600m (over 8,500 feet) above sea level. It’s not just the height that makes it scary; the toilet is perched rather precariously on the edge of a cliff. I think it looks like it might fall right off if a very heavy person used it.

What’s this lonely lavatory doing up there all by itself, you ask? Well, it’s meant to serve just five people – employees at the remote weather station at Kara-Tyurek.

Kara-Tyurek, which means ‘Black Heart’ in the local language, lies in the Russian Altai Mountains. Its weather station has been operational since 1939, and the five people working there have just the one toilet to use.

Rubberband Boy

Rubberband Boy

Shay Horay, better known as the Rubberband Boy, is one of the world’s most unusual performers. During his unique act, Horay twists tight rubber band across his face until he looks like a grotesque monster out of a horror movie. Strangely enough, kids love him.

34-year-old Shay Horay is one of those lucky few who knew what they wanted to do with their lives very early on. The young New Zealander grew up surrounded by rubber bands in his parents’ office supply shop and used them to create all kinds of crazy contraptions inspired by his favorite cartoon, Inspector Gadget. When he was just 12 years old, Shay knew he belonged on stage, making a living out of showing audiences a good time and wowing them with his strange talent. Although he specializes in stand-up comedy, unicycle and pogo stick routines, it was the Rubberband Boy character that made him internationally famous. His ability to use rubber bands to make his face look mutilated turned out to be a great crowd-pleaser, and so far he has traveled to 25 different countries entertaining people with his unique act.

Coffin-shaped Tanning Bed

Coffin-shaped Tanning Bed

This would make a perfect advertisement for skin cancer.

The worst thing about vampires is that nasty, pale skin. Unfortunately, all but those in Twilight have to avoid sunlight, which means being sickly pale is their only option. Luciano Podcaminsky is here to help though with his coffin-shaped tanning bed. Of course, the UV Rays emitted might still be poisonous to vampires, but maybe in low dosages it can improve the complexion without killing the tanner.
