At the Kruger National Park in South Africa, after two lions spent the better part of hour stalking a buffalo and finally taking it down, another buffalo came to the rescue and flipped one of the lions into the air.

Enjoy!

THIS lion was flipped five metres into the air by a buffalo in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. The buffalo bull was conducting a daring rescue mission in a bid to save his friend from certain death. Two young lions had been silently stalking the buffalo for about 45 minutes when one finally made its move. But the predator was so focused on bringing down his prey that it left itself open to a surprise attack. The astonishing images were captured by Ian Matheson, 52, during an early morning game drive with his son Oliver, 16, and two of Oliver’s friends in the Mjejane Reserve on the border of the Kruger Park. Amazingly all of the animals walked away from the encounter with no major injuries, except perhaps some bruised egos on the lion’s part.

Photographer Chris McLennan used a custom-made remote-controlled 4×4 camera buggy to take pictures of lions in Botswana.

Genius!

“Car L” meets the lions. The remote controlled 4×4 camera buggy gets up close and personal as it is stalked by this curious pride of lions in Botswana.

The “Car L” project was hatched by Chris McLennan and engineered by Carl Hansen to capture unique images of lions with a Nikon D800E, fired remotely by Chris McLennan using a trigger system built into the remote control unit.

Made possible by HP and Nikon New Zealand.

In the year 1515, Giuliano de’ Medici presented the newly crowned King of France, Francois I, with a mechanical lion that walked on it own. The automata was designed by Leonardo Da Vinci, but all that is left of it is the diagrams. However, from those plans the lion was reconstructed in 2009. Watch it move, and imagine seeing this almost 500 years ago!

Thursday

Hold your mouse over for the answer.

Alice is walking throught the forest of forgetfulness. She wants to know what day of the week it is. She stops and asks a lion and a unicorn.

Now the lion lies all of the time on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

The unicorn always lies on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Alice asks the lion what day it is, he says, “Well, yesterday was one of my lying days.”

Alice can’t figure it out just from the lion’s answer so she asks the unicorn and the unicorn says, “Yesterday was also one of my lying days.”

What day is it?
