Dot Illusion

dot-illusion

You might be seeing dots in front of your eyes today. Chances are your friends on social media are sharing an optical illusion that challenges you to see 12 dots on one image, all at the same time. Good luck with that. What you’re seeing is a take on the classic Hermann-grid illusion that makes dark spots appear in the crosshatches of a black-and-white grid.

The 12-dots version of the illusion traces back to scientist and visual-illusions specialist Jacques Ninio, author of a paper on Hermann grid variations published in 2000 in the journal Perception. If the black-dots illusion isn’t enough for you, then check out Ninio’s reverse version in PDF format that has you searching for white dots against a black background. It’s just as illusive.

The illusion isn’t new, but the internet just recently discovered it and went bonkers over the illustration. An Imgur post of the picture has over 2.3 million views and gobs of Reddit users are commenting on the mind-boggling challenge. “It’s like playing whack-a-mole with your eyes,” notes Reddit user Ripsaw99, in reference to the arcade game that requires to you smack down toy moles that pop up out of holes.

You can chase the dots with your eyes, but you probably won’t ever be able to see all of them simultaneously. That’s both the fun and frustration of Ninio’s clever illusion.

Hillary Eye Problems Return

Hillary Clinton’s eye problems return at the Cleveland rally.

What is wrong with Hillary Clinton’s eyes?

Several instances of her eyes not appearing to be acting in sync happened again during a rally in Cleveland, Ohio on Friday evening.

Her left eye seemed to turn more than her right while she strained to make a point as she was looking to her right.

Writing for The Hill, Dr. John R. Coppedge observed:

It appears that she has a problem with her left sixth cranial nerve. That nerve serves only one function and that is to make the lateral rectus muscle contract. That muscle turns the eye in the direction away from the midline.

It comes out of the base of the brain and runs along the floor of the skull, immediately beneath the brain before coursing upward to the eye. Dysfunction of that muscle causes the striking picture of the eyes not aiming in the same direction and causes the patient to suffer double vision.

Like all things medical, there is a long list of potential causes but in my opinion the most likely one, based on Clinton’s known medical history is an intermittent lateral rectus palsy caused by damage to or pressure on her sixth cranial nerve.

“If, as is statistically likely, Clinton’s transverse sinus is still blocked,” Coppedge writes, “she would still have increased pressure and swelling and decreased blood flow to her brain. That swelling would place pressure on the exposed portion of the sixth cranial nerve at the base of her brain, explaining the apparent lateral rectus palsy. And such a deficit can be partial and/or intermittent.”

More Video Evidence Of Hillary Clinton’s Brain Damage

Hillary told the FBI she could no longer recall things after her head injury.

Watch her right eye go screwy in this video shot after the fall:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Hillary Clinton told the FBI she did not recall all the briefings she received on handling sensitive information as she made the transition from her post as U.S. secretary of state, due to a concussion suffered in 2012, according to a report released Friday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation released a summary of the July 2 interview it conducted with the Democratic presidential candidate, as well as other details of its investigation into her use of a private email server while heading the State Department.

Clinton, who is challenging Republican Donald Trump for the White House in the Nov. 8 election, has been dogged by the fallout from her private email account for more than a year.

Republicans have repeatedly attacked Clinton over the issue, helping drive opinion polls that show many U.S. voters doubt her trustworthiness.

Clinton has said that in hindsight she regretted using a private email system while secretary of state.

Said the report, “Clinton said she received no instructions or direction regarding the preservation or production of records from (the) State (Department) during the transition out of her role as Secretary of State in 2013.

“However, in December of 2012, Clinton suffered a concussion and then around the New Year had a blood clot (in her head). Based on her doctor’s advice, she could only work at State for a few hours a day and could not recall every briefing she received,” the report said.

According to the report, Clinton told the FBI that she did not set up a private email server to sidestep the law requiring her to keep her business communications a matter of public record.

Clinton has claimed it was public knowledge to many State Department employees that she was using a private server because they received emails from her email domain.

But State Department employees interviewed by the FBI said many emails from Clinton appeared to be from “H” and did not show her private email domain.

The documents also show that Clinton contacted former Secretary of State Colin Powell in 2009 to ask about his use of a personal BlackBerry phone.

In his reply to Clinton via email, Powell told Clinton to “be very careful” because the work-related emails she sent on her BlackBerry could become public record.

“I got around it all by not saying much and not using systems that captured the data,” Powell said.

The FBI released its report on Friday afternoon before the Labor Day holiday weekend, a time many Americans are preparing to travel.
