Called “Armageddon”, the name is no accident, it is the strongest beer in the world. At 65 per cent alcohol, it’s stronger than whiskey or brandy and 16 times more potent than a standard lager.

Armageddon

A Scottish brewery claims to have created the world’s strongest beer – a 65% alcohol drink called Armageddon.

And it is proving so popular that there is a two-week wait for delivery – despite the £40 price tag for a single 330ml bottle.

Created by Scottish firm Brewmeister, the beer is made from crystal malt, wheat and flaked oats and is freeze fermented to bring it to the required ABV.

A pint of the beer contains an alarming 37 units of alcohol – twice the recommended weekly intake for a man.

Brewmeister says the beer should be ‘consumed like a fine whisky’.

A spokesman said: “Despite being 65%, the beer has a lot of flavour – malty, hoppy, slightly sweet and lots of yeast still in the beer.

“Be careful though, smelling it is probably enough to put you over the limit!”

Brewery founder Lewis Shand told Standard Media: “The phrase “delivers a punch” doesn’t quite cut it – delivers a supersonic charged explosion is probably more appropriate.”

Nobama Beer

A true American patriotic beer for the masses.

Nobama Beer Label

A local brewer’s politically charged beer is making Oklahomans tipsy.

‘Nobama Brew,’ made by Huebert Brewing Company, has become the beer of choice for many Oklahomans who aren’t fans of the president.

Brewery owner Rick Huebert is not shy about his political leanings.

“I’ve never been a fan of Obama,” Huebert said.

Huebert has been brewing as much Nobama beer as he can to meet demand.

He said he’s sold thousands of bottles just in the past few weeks.

“The phones have been constantly ringing, my email keeps locking up and we’re out of beer. I’ve got to make more beer,” Huebert said.

Tracy Wise, co-owner of The Bootlegger liquor store in Moore, said it’s the political message that has Oklahomans reaching for Nobama.

“As soon as people knew we had it, we started selling them. The sales have picked up quite a bit,” Wise said.

But Huebert thinks the flavor of the malt-infused wheat beer also keeps Oklahomans coming back for more.

“After they sit down and drink it, [customers say] ‘I’ve got to share this with my buddy,’” Huebert said.

Huebert said the idea for an anti-Obama beer originally came from a group out of Tulsa, who brought the idea to him months ago.

Brewery Uses Man’s Beard Yeast To Make Beer

Maybe this should be on tap at Obama’s next “Beer Summit”.

Something strange is going on at the Rogue Ales Brewery in Newport, Oregon. Brewers there are developing an ale made from wild yeast harvested from the beard of Rogue’s award-winning brewmaster, John Maier.

He hasn’t shaved since 1978, and that apparently makes his beard the perfect place to harvest yeast. I’m just kidding, it’s far from perfect, but Rogue Ales’ president, Brett Joyce said he was looking for a “different place that might have some magic yeast in it” and decided to try out Maier’s facial hair. The guys at Rogue had tried developing some new yeast strains from some of their own hopyard, but came up empty-handed, so as a joke they had their lab guy take a couple of Q-tip swabs from John Maier’s fluffy beard. Amazingly enough, he found a yeast cell, did some fermentation tests and the unique “beard beer” was born. What started out as a joke turned into something really special, since they never expected to find the new yeast they were looking for right in their brewmaster’s beard. ”This really is the needle in the haystack” John Couchot, Rogue Ales’ self-described mad scientist said.
