Bald Men Perceived As More Attractive

Being Bald May Actually Boosts Your Attractiveness… According to Science!

Bald Men Perceived As More Attractive

According to a new study, bald really is beautiful. Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania have released the results of a survey that found that men who have shed their hair are more attractive.

The study was composed of three major tests given to students on campus. Male and female students were asked to rate photos of men according to attractiveness, confidence, and dominance. Some of the photos also digitally removed hair from some of the pictures to show the same person with and without their locks.

According to the researchers, the bald men won out in all three categories. The study also says men who willingly ditch their hair are perceived as more appealing because they’ve gone against the traditional norms associated with hair and vitality.

“Choosing to dispense with one’s hair is arguably a form of nonverbal behavior, a form of expression which communicates information about the self otherwise difficult to observe,” researchers write.

‘‘Anyone can be confident with a full head of hair. But a confident bald man—there’s your diamond in the rough.’’ — Larry David

The findings also claim that bald men, being perceived as more dominant, will do better in business and economically overall. Based on their study, researchers at Penn also suggest that men beginning to lose their hair just let it happen.

“Instead of spending billions each year trying to reverse or cure their hair loss, the counter-intuitive prescription of this research to men experiencing male pattern baldness is to shave their heads.”

Do Hats Cause Balding?

Is it true that if you wear a hat often enough it will cause you to bald?

There are a few things that are known to induce hair loss, but wearing hats isn’t one of them—even if you wear one every day. Here’s the truth about that old wives’ tale.

In this video from the Mental Floss YouTube channel, Craig Benzine explains the leading causes of hair loss: poor nutrition, drugs, infection, pregnancy, trauma, and the biggest factor of them all, genetics. There is, however, a condition known as traction alopecia that causes hairlines to recede due to, well, consistent traction or rubbing. The skin gets damaged and scars over the hair follicles so nothing can grow there anymore. Wearing tight ponytails, hair barrettes, or helmets on a regular basis can put you at risk. But only wearing a hat isn’t enough to cause that unless it was extremely tight on your head.

That said, wearing hats can speed up the balding process if you’re already losing your hair due to genetics or other causes. Taking the hat off can pull out hairs, and if it’s too tight, adjusting it can also yank some out. So wear your hats just a little bit loose and you’ll be fine.

Barber Disciplines Kids By Giving Them Old-Man Haircuts

Barber Disciplines Kids By Giving Them Old-Man Haircuts

This is priceless.

An Atlanta barber disciplines misbehaving kids by giving them old-man haircuts.

Looking to teach your misbehaving children a lesson? Well, a barbershop in Snellville, Atlanta, seems to have hit upon the perfect solution – old-man haircuts that make kids look like they are balding.

Aptly named the ‘Benjamin Button Special’, the haircut involves shaving the crown of the head and leaving the sides long to make them resemble a balding elderly person. The service is offered free of charge three times a week by Russell Fredrick and his team at their suburban salon A-1 Kutz.

Fredrick, co-owner of A-1 Kutz, said that he realized the potential of the technique after he tried it on his own 12-year-old son, Rushawn. He said that Rushawn’s grades, which were quite low, had “dramatically skyrocketed” after Fredrick gave him an ‘old-man haircut’. Ever since he started advertising the service, Fredrick, 34, said that one parent has tried it out. But ever since he posted ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures of his ‘Benjamin Button’ haircu online, several others parents have displayed interest. The images have been shared many times over on Facebook and Instagram.

According to Fredrick, reactions to the photographs have mostly been positive. Supporters say that it is the perfect punishment for children who want to act grown up. “There are a few people that are saying it’s emotional abuse; but on average, everyone is applauding the mother that brought the child in – and applauding me as well,” Fredrick said.

He also mentioned that the haircut is a harmless technique to discipline children, instead of resorting to spanking and other painful methods.
