How Much Do The Obamas Spend On Vacations And Travel?

Shared sacrifice? Socialism is for the people, not the socialists.

Obama administration travel and vacation documents were released yesterday by Judicial Watch, and they reveal an unprecedented level of executive branch leisure spending.

According to public information: “As of 2001, the president earns a$400,000 annual salary, along with a $50,000 annual expense account, a$100,000 nontaxable travel account, and $19,000 for entertainment. The most recent raise in salary was approved by Congress and President Bill Clinton in 1999 and went into effect in 2001.”

Obtained via a Freedom of Information request, here are some of the Obama presidency’s spending items:

Since 2009, a total of $40,000,000 has been spent.

This year’s Presidential golf outings to California and Florida, including $3,000,000 in flight expenses.

2013′s Africa trip and Honolulu vacations for the Obamas cost $16,000,000- for flight expenses alone.

2013′s Ireland trip tab: $8,000,000.

Michelle Obama’s 2-day side trip to Dublin cost $250,000, including a $3,500 per-night suite.

To put these figures in perspective, the administration spends every 5 hours what the average American family spends each summer on vacations. And that only counts those that actually are financially able to vacation. To put it another way, it takes the annual income taxes of 926 typical households to cover these costs.

Or another way, that’s 70 times what the president is allotted in compensation on a yearly basis.

Is there any conceivable way to justify a monthly average travel and vacation budget of $625,000? For a President that constantly harps on about income inequality and shared sacrifice, his lavish presidential lifestyle is the epitome of hypocrisy.

One side note here. I just ran across something very funny. Remember recently how no one could name a single achievement or accomplishment of Hillary Clinton during her years as Secretary of State? Even she couldn’t name one.

Well, I noticed this question … What are Barack Obama’s contributions to society?

Shaolin Monk Training

Award winning photographer Tomasz Gudzowaty provides a rare inside look at the martial arts training of Shaolin Monks in his fantastic photo essay “Shaolin Temple“.

In the seventies, the martial art of Kung Fu became a pop-culture phenomenon due to the cult TV series of the same name. The show’s main character, a fugitive monk from the Shaolin monastery, finds himself in the western world. From that time forward, Kung Fu and Shaolin have been associated with that media icon of a warrior-monk of extraordinary ability. But for the Buddhists, Shaolin remains a cradle of one of the most significant forms of the religion called Chan; a discipline that values spiritual self-improvement through meditation over prayers and ceremonies. Introduced in the 5th century AD by the Indian monk Bodhidharma, the principles of contemplation and martial arts, present in the daily life of monks, are regarded as a remedy for physical weakness and indolence. Despite the vicissitudes of history, the monastic tradition survived until Mao’s Cultural Revolution, when the Shaolin temple was officially closed. But the formal organization, with a prior as leader, remained untouched, and in the eighties the temple was re-opened as a training center and tourist attraction. Students of karate, judo, and tai box often refuse to recognize Kung Fu as a martial art due to its theatricality and testing of one’s own resistance instead of the opponent’s. In a way, this is true. Training in Kung Fu is mostly done without an opponent, as it was never meant to kill, and the poetic names of the moves implies that it is more of meditation than a fight. However, the only difference between breaking a clay jug and smashing a human skull with one’s bare hands is consciousness of will.

A Chris Christie Sex Tape?

This is good stuff!

Could this be the tape Hillary and the Democrats were praying for? Chris Christie in a Mafia initiation sex tape?

So a guy came by the office the other day. I’ll call him Bill. Bill was accompanied by an established journalist that several Gawker staffers know. Bill had something he wanted to show us, and the journalist was making an introduction. What he wanted to show us: Chris Christie and several unidentified males having sex with a woman, on tape.

I was actually out sick on the day in question. Around 2 p.m., I got an IM from Gawker deputy editor Max Read:

[Gawker senior writer Hamilton Nolan] has got these two guys int he conference room right now

one who used to be w/ [redacted]

and they have what looks to be a chris christie sex tape

I got dressed and went into work.

When I arrived, Bill was still there, but the journalist who’d brought him in had left. Bill opened up his laptop and showed me a Microsoft Word document into which he had pasted hundreds of photos of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s face, positioned next to what looked like stills from a pornographic film. The photos were arranged so that the face of a male participant in that film was placed directly adjacent to cropped images of Christie’s face, with the angles of the two faces roughly matching. There were close-ups, too: The two mens’ ears side-by-side, and zoomed-in photos of what appeared to be moles on the cheeks of both men. The upshot: The man in the pornographic film looked a lot like Christie. The ears, the chins, the eyes, the hair. A lot.

The man in the film was much, much thinner than Christie is now. But Bill’s Microsoft Word document also included photographs of Christie as a younger, much thinner man. His physique back then seemed compatible with the man in the porn stills.
