Duffus walked through the back door of a toy factory where the paint thinners were stored. He noticed two men working on an aluminum racking system. One man pulled out a cigarette and was about to light it when Duffus pointed at the large “No smoking” signs near the paint thinners. The man scowled and put the cigarette away as Duffus walked off into the plant. Moments later, the fire alarm rang as the paint thinners went up in flames. The fire inspector questioned the two workmen who were by the thinners and was about to release them when Duffus interrupted, “You’re not letting them go, are you?”
“Yes. There are no eyewitnesses and no evidence they were smoking, as the whole area was burnt to a crisp. Besides, they claim that while grinding the edges off the racking a spark set off the blaze,” replied the inspector.
“I can’t prove they were smoking, but I can prove they are lying,” exclaimed Duffus.
