O.J.’s girlfriend hospitalized after fall
Longtime O.J. Simpson girlfriend Christie Prody, 32, was hospitalized this week with a head injury after slipping and falling at a Southwest Miami-Dade gas station, according to police and Simpson’s attorney.
The incident happened Monday morning near Southwest 88th Street and 99th Avenue, and Prody was taken to Baptist Hospital’s intensive care unit, a Miami-Dade police information report shows.
Officers went to the hospital Tuesday to speak with Prody’s mother, who told them Prody and Simpson recently returned from a trip to San Antonio, where they attended a Super Bowl party. Local media there reported Simpson sightings around town, including what he ate at a sushi restaurant with friends.
Investigators interviewed Simpson, who told them he and Prody flew back from Texas separately. Simpson, 60, returned to his Kendall home on Feb. 4, but Prody didn’t come back until Sunday night.
They didn’t fly together because Prody ”was unable to fly back with [Simpson] due to being intoxicated and having a dog on the flight,” according to the police report.
During the interview with police, Simpson “advised this officer that [Prody] was intoxicated and always falling down during the duration of their stay in San Antonio.”
Miami-Dade police spokesman Detective Juan Villalba had no comment beyond what was provided in the information report. He declined to say whether an investigation was ongoing regarding the incident.
Simpson’s attorney, Yale Galanter, said his client was not under investigation and had nothing to do with Prody’s injury. A National Enquirer report Wednesday cited anonymous sources in saying police believe Prody was beaten.
”It’s crap,” Galanter said. “The people at the National Enquirer should be ashamed of themselves. Here a woman is badly injured, and they’re trying to make money from it.”
Galanter complimented Miami-Dade police for investigating the incident and ”quickly determining” Simpson “had no involvement.”
A Baptist Hospital spokeswoman did not have any patient-condition information about Prody late Wednesday.
